Australia ranks 7th in the world for investment safety, analysis finds
Australia is one of the best low-risk countries to invest in, securing seventh place in a global ranking of investment safety, a recent study has found.
A study by trading firm Atmos Funded has evaluated countries’ attractiveness to investors using six metrics, including economic stability, political stability, global peace index, investment attractiveness, foreign direct investments and GDP per capita.
Australia ranked seventh place based on these metrics, scoring 84.08 on an index scaled against top-scoring country Switzerland, which had a score of 100.
“The Australian market presents a compelling case for international investors, combining robust institutional frameworks with significant economic opportunities,” Atmos Funded said in a press release.
“The country's political stability score of 0.92 reflects its mature democratic system and reliable governance structures, while its investment attractiveness rating of 81.9 highlights its appeal to global capital.
“These metrics, coupled with its strong FDI performance, position Australia as a premier destination for investors seeking a balance of security and growth potential in the Asia-Pacific region.”
The study, which was conducted recently, was based on data from 2023, providing a broad view on countries’ economic stability which did not take into account recent, significant shifts in US trade positions.
The study found that Switzerland was the most attractive destination for foreign investors looking for a profitable and stable location to grow their wealth, followed by Singapore and Canada.
In 2023, foreign investment in Australia rose $63.8 billion to $4.659 billion, ABS data showed. The US, UK and European Union were the top three investors by a large margin.
The US ranked 13th in Atmos’ study, receiving a score of 54.88 in terms of investment safety rankings. Its strong investment attractiveness score was weighed down by lower scores in peace and political stability, Atmos found. Events such as the 6 January 2021 Capitol riots contributed to its deteriorating political stability scores.
Donald Trump’s erratic leadership style would have likely sparked a further deterioration in America’s measured political stability throughout 2025, and his volatile tariff agenda has likely reduced America’s attractiveness to investors by introducing high levels of uncertainty.
The Reserve Bank said following Trump’s aggressive imposition of sweeping tariffs, global trade policy uncertainty reached a 50-year high.
Given Australia’s political stability and sustained economic growth, it could pose an attractive alternative for investors looking for a safe and lucrative location to invest their money, Atmos’ study suggested.
