Atlassian has appointed former LinkedIn executive James Chuong as its new CFO, taking the reins from former CFO Joe Binz.

Software developer Atlassian has appointed former LinkedIn executive James Chuong as its chief financial officer. The appointment, effective from 30 March 2026, will see Chuong leading the Sydney-headquartered firm’s finance and legal teams.

Atlassian chief executive and co-founder, Mike Cannon-Brookes, welcomed Chuong’s appointment, celebrating his alignment with the firm’s values.

“James is exactly the type of leader we want on the TEAM right now – a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the technology industry, and a strong grasp of our business and market,” Cannon-Brookes said.

“He was attracted to our values and mission, and is excited to help us build the future of teamwork as we accelerate through the AI era.”

Atlassian is a software development and enterprise service management company, with large global customers including NASA, Rivian, Deutsche Bank, United Airlines and Bosch.

Chuong, who is based in San Francisco, brings over 20 years of leadership experience across the technology and investment banking sectors to the role. He has previously held investment banking roles at J.P. Morgan, Citigroup and Bank of America Securities.

Most recently, he served as CFO of LinkedIn for five years as the company grew to over 1 billion members and $18 billion in revenue.

Chuong’s appointment follows the departure of former Atlassian CFO Joe Binz, who announced he would be retiring from his role by mid-2026 in October last year. He served as the company’s CFO since September 2022.

In a LinkedIn post welcoming Chuong to the exec team, Cannon-Brookes said he was thrilled to have the new CFO on board.

“From our first conversation it was clear James brings far more than financials to the table. He cares deeply about how teams work, how products get built, and how we show up for customers,” he said.

“He’s joining Atlassian because he believes in our mission to unleash the potential of every team, and in the opportunity ahead of us as we keep scaling.”

Chuong also celebrated his new role with a LinkedIn post.

“I’ve long admired Atlassian’s mission to unleash the potential of every team, and I’m excited to partner with our leaders and teams around the world to fuel the next chapter of growth and innovation,” he said.

“From world‑class products to a deeply values‑driven culture, Atlassian is uniquely positioned to help teams navigate an increasingly complex world of work. I can't wait to join Mike Cannon-Brookes and the entire team on March 30 to build what's next.”
