EY Oceania adds new tax leader to bolster growth

Profession
09 October 2025

The big four firm has unveiled the appointment of a new tax leader to its Oceania network in a move to drive continued success.

EY Australia has appointed Ian McNeill as its new regional tax leader for Oceania, effective October 2025.

The firm noted that with the appointment of McNeill into the position, he would succeed the current leader, Scott Grimley, who had been significantly successful at leading the tax practice as the market leader in Australia.

The appointment was made in a bid to continue the success of the tax practice branch after it had demonstrated “resilience and growth” by generating $636 million in revenue for the 2025 financial year amid challenging local and global market conditions.

EY Australia said this growth highlighted its “unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional value to clients” and reinforced its position within Australia.

David Larocca, EY regional managing partner and CEO, said McNeill would be responsible for the tax service line across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea to ensure a cohesive approach to delivering innovative tax solutions across the region.

“Ian’s appointment as our new Oceania tax leader reflects our commitment to evolving and refreshing leadership seamlessly across our business, ensuring we remain at the forefront of the industry,” he said.

“Ian’s extensive experience and strategic vision will be essential as we continue to strengthen our position in the market. His proven leadership will enable us to navigate the evolving tax landscape and further enhancing our service offerings.”

McNeill was noted to be highly suitable for the position based on having over 20 years of experience within the EY organisation in key roles such as the Asia-Pacific tax deputy leader and global core tax leader.

Larocca added that McNeill’s leadership had been “instrumental in driving growth and operational excellence across both the Asia-Pacific region and globally”.

Speaking about his appointment, McNeill said: “I am honoured to take on this role and lead our talented team. The Oceania tax practice is already a market leader, and I look forward to building on our success and leveraging our strengths to deliver innovative solutions for our clients in this dynamic environment.”

“With the current tax climate presenting opportunities for reform and increased global competitiveness, I’m excited to drive our tax business into its next chapter of success.”
